DR4WARD (pronounced Doctor Forward) is an eclectic, genre-blending band formed in Grand Rapids, MI, by Bill Ward and Tommy Muldowney. After meeting at a local restaurant where Tommy was working and Bill was a regular, the duo bonded over laughs and a mutual obsession with diverse musical styles, quickly sparking a collaborative creative partnership.
With Bill penning the lyrics and handling lead vocals, and Tommy serving as composer, multi-instrumentalist, lead guitarist, and backing vocalist, DR4WARD crafts a sound that is simultaneously fun, whimsical, spiritual, and apocalyptic. Their songs offer unique commentary on the intersection of technology and humanity, driven by a contagious mix of rock, country, folk, surf, punk, and psychedelia. Their distinct sonic footprint draws from a wide pool of influences, including Ween, Drivin’ N Cryin’, The Stooges, Nick Cave, and Talking Heads.
When hitting the stage, DR4WARD expands into a live collective, joined by members of local favorites Green Acres and Rip Smidgeon. Their highly anticipated debut album, DR4WARD Solves the Mysteries of the Universe—recorded at Rock Island Studios—is set for release in July 2026.
